So today’s job was a BMW Remap to stg1 on this X3 2015 2.0L model with 184hp as standard.
The customer used this to tow a mid size caravan as well as a daily drive as well but just wanted that extra bit of towing power out of it, he had already tried a ‘tuning box’ and rated it as utter rubbish!
Basically a tuning box plugs in between the rail pressure switch and the wiring loom and ‘fools’ the ECU to thinking there is less pressure in the rail than there actually is, simply put, it over fuels the engine with nothing to govern it at any speed/load etc.
Remapping works completely different and mainly focuses on torque limits put in place by the manufacturer, in fact it can be fuel limits and boost limits as well!
Still, This being a BMW Remap then it’s usually simple and writing the unrestricted tune for it takes only 30 mins or so, once written back to the ECU and everything checked then you should have at least +25hp and +60nm torque on these motors.
