This customer had in the past a larger 4×4 vehicle to tow his caravan, but the cost of running it the rest of the time was taking it’s toll so they decided to buy something smaller and cheaper to run as an everyday motor. Ideally they wanted the BMW 530D but couldn’t find one that hadn’t been to the moon and back, so picked this very tidy ‘low miles’ 520D instead and contacted us to see if we could get the pulling power up a little bit to help it cope with the caravan.
Simple remap to stg1 should bump torque up to 440nm from the stock 380nm that’s a good 60nm gain from a simple remap, we didn’t go mad with it and tried to make the torque curve as that as possible and bring it in a little earlier to help with everyday driving.
A scan prior revealed a few niggly issues but as it’s under warranty still, it should get sorted, DPF content of ash was 34g which is rather high but the problems found also revealed a failed regen, time after time, hence the DPF having a high ash content, nothing that could be done with this other than replacing the faulty part and hopefully getting the regen function active again.
